Our tips for Secret Lagoon

  • No shoes, no shirt, no problem. While you might think that the bottom of the secret lagoon is rocky and treacherous, it’s not. The smooth, black lava rock means you can leave your pool shoes at home.
  • Put on your birthday suit. Everybody is required to shower prior to jumping into the Secret Lagoon. Also, there are no stalls or dividers. Mentally prepare yourself for mass nakedness!
  • Everybody out of the pool! Make sure you set aside time to walk around. The scenery is beautiful, and you’ll find several hot springs as well as an active geyser!
  • Save those pennies. Traveling on a budget? No problem! Save a little money during your Secret Lagoon trip by availing yourself of the Secret Lagoon Locker Room. The Secret Lagoon underwent a significant overhaul and now boasts a modern locker room with showers. The best part is you can store your belongings for free! Renting a towel costs money, however. Locally known as Gamla Laugin, the Secret Lagoon is the oldest pool in Iceland that was made way back in 1891. During peak activity, the nearby Litli Geysir erupts every five minutes, approximately. The annual average temperature of the hot springs is between 38° and 40° Celsius. The water is rich in sulfur and other minerals. Icelandic ladies used to do laundry in the warm waters of the hot springs near the Secret Lagoon. From 1947, this lagoon was forgotten until 2005 when it came out of oblivion. The Secret Lagoon was re-opened on the 7th of June 2014, and it is now a busier site than ever

From there, it is less than a kilometer to the Secret Lagoon. Taxis and public buses are to be avoided as both are very expensive.
