The 18th-century Neo-classical monument is one of the most easily recognisable landmarks in Berlin. This old gate was constructed on the orders of Prussian king Frederick William II and still stands tall at the junction of Unter den Linden and Ebertstraße. The gate is 26 meters high, 65.5 meters long, and 11 meters deep. It was restored after it suffered damage around WW II.
Symbol of the chaotic history and cold war of Germany and Europe, this historical monument has played different roles in the political game throughout the cold war and post-1989 revolutions.
There is one more Brandenburg Gate at Potsdam which was built in 1771.
The best time to visit Brandenburg Gate is in the early morning to avoid the worst crowds. Also, sunrise and sunset are the best times to click Gram-worthy pictures.
Brandenburg Gate is located at Pariser Platz. You can reach the gate on foot or via public transport. You can take the Ubahn line U5 or Sbahn lines S1, S2, S25, or S26 from the S&U station. If you are coming by bus, take bus number 100.
Since it is an outdoor location, it is open all year round without any barriers to entry.
You can go to a popular inner city park named Tiergarten which is just a few steps away from the Brandenburg Tor. Victory Column is another popular landmark that should not be missed. For those who admire the architecture, Reichstag Building is another must-visit attraction. Holocaust Memorial is located a few minutes south of the Brandenburg Gate for a quick visit.
